Gardner Morey, 47, spent the past year building the Goldeneyes from scratch in the PWHL's first season. The franchise was the first team eliminated from playoff contention. Coach Brian Idalski was fired following that playoff elimination, opening the head coaching vacancy that Gardner Morey will now fill.
Gardner Morey brings 14 seasons of NCAA Division I head-coaching experience from her tenure at Princeton, where she compiled a program-record 26-win season in 2020 and led the team to their first ECAC tournament title that year. In an on-the-record statement, she said, "I realized how much I missed being behind the bench," and noted that "coaching is where I know I can make the biggest impact."
The transition leaves the Goldeneyes without a GM while the PWHL oversees a search for Gardner Morey's replacement. No interim GM or timeline for the search has been announced. The team completed last month's draft with the No. 1 overall pick, selecting U.S. Olympic team defender Caroline Harvey.
