Jonathan Greenard active for Eagles-Bears Monday Night football, September 28

Jonathan Greenard made his Philadelphia Eagles debut in Monday night's divisional matchup against the Chicago Bears after clearing a pectoral injury sustained while lifting weights over the summer. Greenard had been sidelined for all of training camp and the first two regular-season games.

The Eagles acquired Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings during draft weekend in April, sending two third-round draft picks, the No. 98 pick in this year's draft and a third-rounder next year. He then agreed to a four-year, $100 million extension with the Eagles that includes $50 million in guaranteed money.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio cautioned that Greenard is not ready for a full workload. "He's not only coming off inactivity, he's coming off an injury," Fangio said. "His injury for a good bit, the first, I don't know, four to six, seven weeks, he really couldn't do a whole lot conditioning-wise either." Fangio noted Greenard is "nowhere near ready" for unrestricted playing time.

The Eagles' pass rush has generated a 45% pressure rate through two games, the second-best rate entering Week 3 after the Vikings (48%), but has netted just three sacks, tied for the fifth fewest in the NFL. Greenard, 29, is expected to assume a starting role when healthy, joining a defensive end group that also includes Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, AJ Epenesa and Arnold Ebiketie.

Greenard recorded 12.5 sacks and was named to the Pro Bowl in his first season with the Vikings but was slowed by a shoulder injury that ultimately required season-ending surgery in 2025. He had three sacks in 12 games last season after double-digit sack campaigns the previous two years in Minnesota. Greenard spent his first four years with the Houston Texans before signing with the Vikings in 2024.
