Angels trade Silseth, O'Hoppe to Rangers for minor league 3B

The Los Angeles Angels traded reliever Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O'Hoppe to the Texas Rangers for minor league third baseman Angel Arredondo on Wednesday night, marking the opening salvo in what interim general manager John Mozeliak called a necessary roster dismantling.

The Angels, at 42-66, hold the American League's worst record and sit 13 and a half games behind the Rangers in the AL West. That gap, combined with the calendar approaching the trade deadline, triggered the move.

Silseth, 26, was one of the Angels' top relievers, posting a 3-2 record with a 2.72 ERA over 47 games this season, per ESPN. O'Hoppe, also 26, appeared in 75 games and batted .209 with 23 RBIs, according to the same report.

In return, the Angels received Arredondo, a 19-year-old third baseman who hit .247 with eight home runs, 15 doubles and 47 RBIs in 86 games for Single-A Hickory this season. Arredondo signed with the Rangers as an international free agent out of Mexico in 2024, per ESPN.

Mozeliak framed the deal as a threshold moment. "We know we have to start shaking up this roster, and today was day one," he said. "Clearly, where the Angels are at right now, we need to do things differently."

The trade came just minutes before the Angels' series finale against the Houston Astros.
