On football's global stage, the FIFA governance crisis escalated sharply with three continental confederations issuing a formal joint accusation against president Gianni Infantino. UEFA, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation released an open letter Monday calling Infantino's handling of the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal a "fundamental breach of trust" and "deception." The FFE plan would have created a new company to manage FIFA's commercial and tournament operations, with around 20 percent sold to private investors.
