Carr started the game and rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries before sustaining a hand injury in the second quarter that will require surgery, per ESPN. Limar, a transfer from Oregon, carried five times for 28 yards before sustaining an elbow injury.
Coach Jedd Fisch said Monday that he does not know if either injury is season-ending, but added, "I know they're not going to be back for a while," per ESPN. Fisch said his concern level with running back depth is "Very," according to ESPN.
Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. led Washington in rushing with 61 yards against Washington State. The program will now lean on senior Trey Cooley, a transfer from Troy, who carried four times in the game, and freshman Brian Bonner to handle most of the running back duties in the immediate future.
Fisch noted the team has seven running backs total and said he was "glad we made a decision to bring in Trey Cooley, because you always have to be aware of the running back room," per ESPN. He added this is the "first time in six years as a head coach that I've had two pretty significant injuries in the same room," per ESPN.
Washington hosts Utah State and Eastern Washington the next two weeks before opening Big Ten play at home against Minnesota on September 26, according to ESPN.
Carr suffered a hand injury requiring surgery and Limar sustained an elbow injury, with Coach Fisch saying both will be out for a while but declining to rule out season-ending status.
Fisch's uncertainty about whether either injury will prove season-ending leaves the Huskies in limbo heading into Big Ten play. If Carr and Limar miss more than two weeks, Cooley and Bonner will face their first significant workload in a conference schedule significantly more demanding than non-conference opponents.
