Sterling Charged With Dangerous Driving After Motorway Crash

Raheem Sterling, 31, has been charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen following a single-vehicle crash on the M3 motorway near the Minley Interchange in Hampshire on the morning of Thursday, 28 May 2026, according to BBC Sport. Sterling crashed his Lamborghini into barriers on the southbound carriageway. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. Sterling was arrested and then released on bail pending further enquiries. He is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September. Police suspected Sterling of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, but that charge has not been included in the formal prosecution. A source close to Sterling told BBC Sport in May there was "no proof" of drugs in his system. Sterling is currently without a club after leaving Feyenoord at the end of last season. He joined Feyenoord in February on a short-term contract after leaving Chelsea by mutual consent. Chelsea had paid 47.5 million pounds to sign Sterling from Manchester City in 2022. At Manchester City, Sterling won four Premier League titles, five League Cups, and one FA Cup over seven years. Sterling earned 82 England caps between 2012 and 2022, appearing at three World Cups and two European Championships.
