Steelers' Jalen Ramsey placed on PUP after minicamp knee injury

Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after suffering a knee injury during minicamp, the team announced as it reported to St. Vincent College on Tuesday morning.

Ramsey, a three-time All-Pro at age 31, did not require surgery, according to ESPN's reporting. GM Omar Khan told reporters he anticipates Ramsey will be sidelined for a couple of weeks and does not anticipate Ramsey missing the season.

Ramsey spent time at nickel corner, safety, and cornerback last season. Defensive back Donte Kent will also begin camp on the PUP list. Khan said he is not concerned about secondary depth because of offseason acquisitions and other players returning to full health, specifically highlighting cornerback Jamel Dean, safety Darnell Savage, cornerback Brandin Echols, and safety DeShon Elliott as depth pieces.

In a separate development, offensive lineman Broderick Jones, a 2023 first-round pick who suffered a season-ending neck injury in late November, was medically cleared to return to practice. Jones did not participate in football activities during the offseason workout program. Coach Mike McCarthy said Jones will not immediately go to 100 percent reps due to the medical clearance but noted Jones has position flexibility and is a starter-level player.

The timeline for Ramsey's return remains subject to the medical evaluation. The exact nature or severity of the knee injury beyond the team's surgery-not-required statement has not been disclosed.
