Seahawks, CB Witherspoon agree to 4-year, $132M extension

Devon Witherspoon and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a four-year, $132 million contract extension, according to ESPN reporting. The deal includes over $101 million in guaranteed money and makes Witherspoon the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

Witherspoon, 25, has made the Pro Bowl on the initial ballot in each of his first three seasons in the league. The Seahawks drafted him fifth overall in 2023, using the pick they acquired from Denver in the Russell Wilson trade. In just three years, he has become the fourth player in franchise history to earn Pro-Bowl honors in his first three seasons.

The extension comes after a Super Bowl championship season. According to ESPN, the Seahawks' defense allowed the fewest points in 2025 and led Seattle to a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX. Witherspoon recorded a sack of Drake Maye in that game and delivered a hit on New England's quarterback that set up a pick-six by Uchenna Nwosu. During the Seahawks' 50th season, the team named him one of the franchise's 50 greatest players of all-time.

Witherspoon was set to make just under $5.1 million in 2026 before the extension. In March, Seattle exercised his fifth-year option at roughly $21.2 million for 2027. Coach Mike Macdonald said he was "really impressed" by Witherspoon's ability to compartmentalize business discussions during negotiation. In the season premiere of Hard Knocks, Witherspoon said he was "not worried" about contract talks and was choosing to focus on preparation for the regular season. He has been a full participant in Seattle's offseason program and training camp practices throughout negotiations.

The extension represents the latest major investment by Seattle in its 2023 draft class. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, whom the Seahawks also selected 20th overall in 2023, signed a four-year, $168.6 million extension in March.
