Waller is 33 and turns 34 next month. He retired after the 2023 season with the New York Giants, returned to play for Miami in 2025, and caught 24 passes for 283 yards with six touchdowns across nine games there.
He made the Pro Bowl in 2020. The Panthers had gone through the offseason without adding an established receiving tight end, and the team's own site carried the move as reported rather than announced, which is the usual sequence before a contract is formally filed.
