Oklahoma WR Harris out indefinitely after hit in Michigan loss; evaluation ongoing

Oklahoma wide receiver Trell Harris will be sidelined for the foreseeable future after absorbing a hit to his right side and abdomen in Saturday's loss to Michigan, head coach Brent Venables said. The evaluation is ongoing and no firm return date has been set.

Harris, a transfer from Virginia, took the blow from Michigan safety Chris Bracy on an 11-yard pass reception late in the first quarter. Despite the impact, the senior remained in the game and finished with four receptions for 43 yards. His absence marks a notable loss for an Oklahoma offense that has relied on depth at receiver.

No specific medical diagnosis has been disclosed. Venables' description of the prognosis as indefinite and subject to ongoing evaluation means the timeline for Harris' return is not yet determined.

Harris recorded 59 receptions for 847 yards and five touchdowns in his final season at Virginia before transferring to Oklahoma. In two games with the Sooners, he has six receptions for 104 yards. His career began at Kent State.

Sophomore Elijah Thomas and junior Mackenzie Alleyne are expected to see increased roles during Harris' absence, per ESPN's reporting. Venables called Thomas one of Oklahoma's most explosive receivers and said Alleyne was among the team's most productive players during spring practice. The Sooners host New Mexico on Saturday.
