Mourinho officially unveiled at Real Madrid with three-year deal

José Mourinho was officially presented as Real Madrid manager on Tuesday, signing a three-year contract and returning to the club for the first time as head coach since 2013, according to ESPN's reporting. The presentation took place at an event not open to the media, with Mourinho formally signing alongside president Florentino Pérez.

Mourinho told Real Madrid TV his return carries both professional and emotional weight. "Real Madrid, from a professional point of view, is the top of a coach's career," he said. "That's the professional side. Then, there's the emotional side. It's like coming home. Emotionally, it's more beautiful than the first time I came."

Mourinho takes over from Álvaro Arbeloa and has overseen preseason training at Valdebebas since last month. His team drew 2-2 with Fiorentina, beat Ferencváros 2-1, won 1-0 at Deportivo La Coruña, and defeated Schalke 3-0 on Sunday, per ESPN. Real Madrid visit Espanyol on Saturday for their opening LaLiga game.

Real Madrid have bolstered their squad with six new signings: Yan Diomande, Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Carlos Espí, according to ESPN. During Mourinho's first spell as Madrid manager from 2010 to 2013, his team won one LaLiga title and one Copa del Rey. In the 2011-2012 season, his team set LaLiga records for overall points total and goals scored.

After leaving Real Madrid in 2013, Mourinho managed Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, AS Roma, Fenerbahce and Benfica before returning to the Bernabéu. "I'm one of you. I always have been, since I arrived, and now I'm here again with this responsibility, you can imagine what it means to me, working for Real Madrid," he told Real Madrid TV.
