Inter Milan in advanced talks for Spurs full-back Spence

Inter Milan are progressing negotiations with Tottenham to sign full-back Djed Spence in a deal worth a minimum of 25.6 million pounds (30 million euros), according to reporting from BBC Sport and ESPN. No agreement has been finalized between the clubs as of the latest updates.

Spence, 26, plays for Tottenham and England. He emerged as a key target for Serie A champions Inter Milan after enhancing his reputation at the World Cup, where he made eight appearances for England. His stock rise at the international tournament appears to have accelerated Tottenham's decision to cash in on the player.

Spence joined Tottenham from Middlesbrough in July 2022 in a deal initially valued at 19 million pounds that included add-ons tied to international performances. Per ESPN's reporting, his England debut in September 2025 triggered a 1 million pound payment to Middlesbrough. He has made 85 appearances for Spurs and was named in their Premier League starting XI 23 times last season as the club narrowly avoided relegation.

Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi does not view Spence as essential to his plans for the upcoming campaign, according to ESPN. Spence's path to regular first-team football at Spurs has become complicated by the club's other defensive signings and priorities. De Zerbi described Pedro Porro as the "best in the world" at right-back, while Spurs have signed former Liverpool defender Andy Robertson on a free transfer to compete with Destiny Udogie at left-back. Destiny Udogie is expected to prove his fitness after a troubled preseason.

BBC Sport reports that Spence was a surprise inclusion in Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the World Cup earlier this summer, and he has since enjoyed an extended break following England's run to a third-place finish in the United States.
