Ex-NFL QB Sanchez Files Guilty Plea Motion Days Before Trial

Mark Sanchez's attorneys filed a motion on September 3 to plead guilty in his criminal case, according to reporting by Awful Announcing. A jury trial had been scheduled to begin on September 8, but the guilty plea motion ends that proceeding. The trial had been delayed five times before the motion was filed.

Sanchez, a former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst, was arrested in Indianapolis in 2025 after a violent altercation with a 69-year-old truck driver. According to Awful Announcing, Sanchez was in Indianapolis to call a Colts game on October 5 of that year. The incident occurred outside his hotel.

Per Awful Announcing, Sanchez was believed to have been intoxicated and allegedly confronted the man inside the cab of his delivery truck. The truck driver claims he pepper-sprayed and stabbed Sanchez several times in self-defense, believing his life was in danger. Both men were hospitalized after the incident.

Sanchez faced charges including battery causing serious injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication, per Awful Announcing. However, which specific charges he is pleading guilty to remains unknown, according to Awful Announcing. Sanchez's attorneys have reportedly requested that sentencing take place on November 9 or 16.

Nick Sanchez Jr., a legal advisor to Sanchez, stated in a report by Awful Announcing: "This is a positive development. We are finalizing an agreement with the prosecutor's office that provides a path toward resolving the state's case. We're also encouraged by the constructive conversations taking place regarding the related civil matter. There is real momentum toward bringing this entire chapter to a close." Matt Golitko, attorney for the plaintiff in the civil suit, told Awful Announcing: "We are pleased with the constructive and professional conversations we've had with Mr. Sanchez's team. Our discussions have been productive and we're on a positive path toward an agreement that will allow the parties to move forward."

The truck driver is now a plaintiff in a civil suit against Sanchez, per Awful Announcing. Sanchez was suspended and later fired by Fox Sports following the incident, with the network replacing him with Drew Brees mid-season, according to Awful Announcing.
