Dak Prescott threw his 249th career passing touchdown during the Dallas Cowboys' Week 2 game against the Washington Commanders on September 20, breaking Tony Romo's franchise record of 248 touchdowns.

Prescott reached the milestone with his fourth passing touchdown of the day, his second throw to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, according to CBS Sports. The achievement marks a significant moment in Cowboys history, cementing Prescott's place among the franchise's all-time greats.

The milestone carries added weight in its timing: Prescott reached 249 career touchdown passes in 15 fewer games than Romo did, according to CBS Sports. Beyond passing touchdowns, Prescott now holds multiple Cowboys franchise records. He leads the team in completion percentage at 66.9%, passing yards with 36,164, and passer rating at 98.2, all marks previously held by Romo.

Prescott was a fourth-round draft pick in 2016, initially slated to be the Cowboys' third-string quarterback before injuries to Romo and backup Kellen Moore forced him into early action. After a momentous rookie season thrust upon him by circumstance, he has since become the face of the franchise.

In remarks after the game, Prescott said: "Yeah, blessed, humbled, thankful to have the opportunity to do so. This game has meant so, so much to me...I expect to play for a long time. And in my mind, I'm just getting started." He also acknowledged his relationships with Romo and Troy Aikman, including work together on charity events and production calls.
