Ronald Acuña Jr. became the fastest player in MLB history to reach 200 home runs and 200 stolen bases in the same career, joining an exclusive club on September 2, 2026, in his 904th game. Acuña hit his 200th career home run in the seventh inning of Atlanta's 9-0 shutout win over Washington at the series finale at Nationals Park, per MLB.com. The three-run shot extended the NL East-leading Braves' lead to 6-0.

Acuña's 200-200 milestone came 25 games faster than Alfonso Soriano, the previous record holder who reached the mark in 929 games. The other members of the 200-200 club reached it considerably later: Eric Davis in 1,053 games, Bobby Bonds in 1,065 games, Sammy Sosa in 1,094 games, and Barry Bonds in 1,094 games, according to MLB.com. Acuña had recorded his 200th stolen base on June 24, 2025, and sat on the cusp of the home run milestone for 16 games after his last home run on August 15 before breaking through on Wednesday.

Acuña entered the day 3-for-5, having already singled twice and stolen his 225th career base before coming to bat in the seventh inning with two runners on. He jumped on a first-pitch fastball from Nationals reliever Max Kranick, sending the ball 379 feet into the visitors' bullpen walkway in left field, per Statcast projection cited by MLB.com. The home run was his 14th of an injury-interrupted 2026 season. In his 15 games before the milestone, Acuña had slashed .207/.292/.241, suggesting a recovery arc from his recent injury setbacks.

Braves manager Walt Weiss said: "Any time you're first, or even top 50 on any list in this game, it's amazing when you think about the history of this game and the people who have played it. We know Ronald's talent. It's freakish talent. So he's capable of doing unbelievable things." Acuña, the 2023 National League MVP, said in response: "I know how much I've kept working to be here. For me, it's an honor to be on that list with Alfonso Soriano."

The Braves' entire scoring came after a one hour and 26 minute rain delay. Catcher Sean Murphy opened the scoring with a three-run homer in the sixth inning and finished with two hits and four RBIs. Third baseman Austin Riley added a two-run single in the eighth. Reliever Elieser Hernández pitched three scoreless innings in his third Braves appearance, having had his contract selected from Triple-A Gwinnett before Wednesday's game.
